Surrounding Object Material Detection and Identification Method for Robots Based on Ultrasonic Echo Signals

Material perception is one of the several essential abilities required by robots, and it also poses significant challenges in real-world field applications. In harsh environments, existing material recognition methods have problem low accuracy. this paper, ultrasonic technology applied to recognition, which derived from predatory strategy echolocation animals. We propose a novel noncontact method surrounding objects for robots based on echo signals, can be used external extreme environments. This primarily adopts 16-dimensional feature vector extracted intrinsic mode functions that we gain empirical decomposition as inputs machine learning algorithms recognize different materials, use K-nearest neighbor, decision tree, support set decide best classifier, its acoustic theoretical model established additionally. The experimental results validate accuracy effectiveness proposed method. Compared with methods, improves poor effect recognition. provides new idea perceive materials
